The Venerable Alan Stanley Giles CB, CBE, MA was an eminent Anglican priest in the second half of the 20th century.〔(Jersey Heritage Trust )〕 He was born into an ecclesiastical family 〔(thePeerage.com )〕 on 28 May 1902〔“Who was Who” 1897-2007 London, A & C Black, 2007 ISBN 978-0-19-954087-7〕 and educated at Manchester Grammar School and The Queen's College, Oxford. He was ordained in 1932〔Crockford's clerical directory 1947-48 Oxford, OUP, 1947〕 and began his career as Curate of St Ebbe's, Oxford and Chaplain of Christ Church.
